"Of course, the fact that Halliburton is actually now headquartered in the United Arab Emirates, rather than simply being de facto headquartered there for years, should shock no one. I wonder if Mr. Cheney will return to his roots in 2009? What does this do to their tax situation in the U.S.? I don't have any idea. They are still a U.S. corporation, but with headquarters out of the country? Any change....?"
Believe it is INACCURATE to call large multi-nationals such as this 'American companies', (or 'French', or 'German', or 'Swiss', etc.)
Despite where ever they nominally maintain their articles of incorporation, (& bearing in mind that usually there are multiple levels of wholly and partially owned subsidiaries, partnerships, shell corporations nominally owning intellectual properties in favorable tax jurisdictions, etc.), there are MULTI-NATIONALS in every since of the word, and 'owe allegiance' (to the extent that they do...) to multiple political domains... not just one. |
