My impression is for a while US policy was a bit more even handed.. Israel was not supported in expansion into US and Palestinians were pushed around a bit to compromise.. Then Bush Senior actually tried to force Israel to back off on couple of issues if I recall and for his trouble 'The Lobby' turned against him and before you could say compromise, he was out.. The Lobby's power was not lost on either Clinton and Bush Jr. who went all out for Israel's positions in all things.. No more middle of the road 'deal maker'.. Sharon was all of a sudden a great peace maker (if I remember that is what Bush called him) and everything that had happened before was all of a sudden of no concer.. All of this and a lot more is all available online some where for any one who cares to dig it up..
