Our history with Israel has and continues to shape foreign policy decisions that should be made only on the basis of what's best for the US.

Our alliance, yes, alliance, with the Saudis is far more influential of our foreign policy than our alliance with Israel could ever hope to be because it is based on oil.

The Saudis support extremist madrassas, export Islamic fundamentalism, support terrorism through private funding, and otherwise act in a manner fundamentally inimical to our interests. Yet, we support them because we need them.

How exactly has supporting Israel hurt us? Do you honestly think that ceasing that support would somehow result in a peaceful Mideast?

France, no friend of Israel, a country its foreign minister has described as "a shitty little country", barely thwarted a 9/11 style assault on the Eiffel Tower. Not supporting Israel, and even actively working against it as France has done, does not innoculate a country from the Muslim fundamentalist rot.
