unclewest, do you think it is possible that there is a possible disinformation campaign on? Are we sending in , SF, Spec Ops and other groups that can in fact, make a difference, and just letting everyone in the world assume we are doing things conventionally?

I have explained it here before. We have SF in place. They are not deployed to do what they are best suited for. SF should be deployed in the areas where the insurgents operate namely the cities. And increase the number of SF teams by 50-100.

We have a conventional force in place. They are not doing what they are best suited for. We should redeploy the conventional forces to stop the infiltration of bad guys from other countries. Get them out of the cities where they are so vulnerable. In fact I advocate sending 2/3 of the conventional force home. Leave enough for the mission I stated along with a rapid reaction force to reinforce A teams when needed.

The SpecOps (.D etc) guys are doing their direct action missions well. But we do not need these extremely expensive forces to do raids. That mission should be put back where it belongs in the USMC. Use the SF trained assets in these units to configure more A teams. Send the rest to ranger and infantry units.

We are doing what we did in VN. It didn't work there and it is not working now. The geezers, grey hairs, and FOGs understand the problem. The young studs like Petreaus on down have no interest in listening to them.

The army and USMC thought and still do think they can win because they have technological advantages and air superiority. Someone should point out that we had both in VN to no avail. We have been at this longer than we were in WWII. Then ask, what have we won?

We have a brand new combatant commander in place. He devised "new" strategy and tactics and deployed to put them in place. He has yet to receive all the extra troops he requested. Yet a few days ago he requested even more. Then he announced we cannot win this militarily.

I maintain the "new" strategy and tactics are old and proven failures. Now that he is on the ground P seems to agree. So like a good conventional general he calls for a bigger hammer. Westmoreland did the same thing.
