These do not lie.

One does need to be careful. There is a field of study known as Sampling Theory. To understand this consider what a sequence of pictures would look like on say Mt Fuji, spanning a decade, if the first pictures was taken in the winter, with each subsequent year having the picture timing delayed two weeks. Over a decade, the final picture would show Mt Fuji 20 weeks later compared to the first picture in relationship to the yearly cycle. This would result in an astonishing progression, but is actually just a sampling problem.

Most regrettably, pictures tend to be chosen to illustrate the issue, hence one needs to be especially careful with them. Even in scientific settings, I'm most skeptical of the pictures. Look at the data charts instead.
