Did you really think that was the NYT telling Al Gore to "cool it"? It ends with this quote “On balance, he did quite well — a credible and entertaining job on a difficult subject,” Dr. Oppenheimer said. “For that, he deserves a lot of credit. If you rake him over the coals, you’re going to find people who disagree. But in terms of the big picture, he got it right.” My impression is that previous NYT coverage of Al Gore has been pretty reverential. This was a different tone. Sort of like a party paper criticizing a party boss for over-zealousness. Which is sort of the case here, if you think about it.
