China will quickly surpass us in terms of damage to air quality. I resent that this administration squandered the opportunity to take the environmental lead.....

Sure it will. But the "environmental lead" came pre-defined as the Kyoto Treaty, which would be if implemented (nobody has implemented it, not even the signatories) a hugely expensive crash course in reducing carbon emissions that would send the developed world into recession, while letting China and India off the hook entirely.

One strong undercurrent of motivation among the enviro-left is to cripple the strongest capitalist countries. Socialism couldn't do it, so they are onto environmentalism.

I'm all for reducing polution too, but CO2 is not polution in any traditional sense. It's only 0.03% of the atmosphere, and is perfectly natural. You and I breathe some out every day.

The only reason to worry about CO2 is if you buy into the greenhouse gas theory, and even then, CO2 is only a small part of the story, since the main greenhouse gas is water vapor, which nobody proposes doing anything about.
