i guess your experiences are not lower income or middle class folks. most of the people i grew up with are still in their homes . some have second homes in florida but all my old neighbors are still in their homes.

Now if you want to take my corp moves and the friends i know there we are not back in my old neighborhood days , which i can go back to that general area any time as most folks in bean town never leave it for some reason.

now back to corp moves. i moved 11 times. house doesn't mean much to me other than functional. Others who i know it is life their whole life. I did taxes for senior center for about five years. It is amazing how these people are like back in bean town. all worked in the same steel mills, or railroad etc all still live in same neighborhood. another example would be places like south philly, when you get married you usually move no further than 3 city blocks from the neighborhood. i expect e.boston and northend are similiar. plus there are many , many more locations like throughout the country.
