I know some people who have lived in the same neighborhoods, but they are few and far between.

I guess it would be more likely if you were an East Coast person. Lots of neighborhoods in NYC, Philli, Boston, etc are multi-generational.

A lot also depends upon your occupation and education. If you have a college education, you're likely to have moved at least a couple of times due to college.

As for relocating, the cost of living factor is something people take into consideration. Someone making 100K in NYC could actually take a job in Huntsville, AL for 70K and have a higher standard of living.
