Well, we know how Al Gore would have reacted to the current oil dependence situation. He was big into the environment when he was Vice President and that has continued during his private life. I also doubt Gore would have gotten us involved in Iraq. He would have finished the job in Afghanistan and most probably not outsourced the fighting in Tora Bora, so Osama would be dead today, instead of disappeared and mocking us with his escape.

Anyway, what we need now more than anything is energy independence. Bush, the oil man, won't get us there and Republicans are so far in the pocket of the oil companies, they can't be trusted to get us there either. I've been a lifelong Republican, but now I want a President that will do the right thing for this country. And I'm sad to say, it most likely won't be a Republican.

Al Gore has the best alternative energy credentials so far. So I'd like to see him run. Barring that, I'll vote for the next best person who comes out strong on energy independence.
