I wonder what the "hidden cost" of no regulation would be? Tainted meat, polluted drinking water, no CAFE standards.

A good example of the conundrum are the new reporting regulations for WS companies that were put into place after the Enron and World Com debacles. Probably 95% of corporations are ligit in their finances but they are paying a huge accounting price for the few that are not.

So what do you do, go back to the wild west where anything goes? How far do you take "let the buyer beware"?
