Your ideas seem to be those of a young man, who's lived through the most unprecedented boom in American history, and assumes it's ALWAYS like that. It's not. This boom started in the early eighties, really skyrocketed through the ninetys, and has been flopping up and down since. Look at this chart:


SS can work for what it was intended, to supplement EVERY American's retirement - we just need to buckle down and force our pols to treat it as the SPECIAL, DEDICATED tax it was meant to be. I have no problem with the GOVERNMENT investing the SS surplus however they see fit, as long as THEY guarantee the payout, from income taxes if the market underperforms. I MUCH rather see my taxes make old people's retirement's a little more comfortable that to fund dumbass elective wars. SS is a tax that actually HELPS people. It's very effective.
