Norilsk Nickel to boost EBITDA

Source: RBC

metalsplace.com

Thu, 15 March 2007 – Norilsk Nickel plans to increase its EBITDA by $300m-$400m in 2007, a spokesman for the company said, adding that this would be related to the Russian mining and metallurgical company's recent acquisition of the US-based OM Group's nickel assets.

As a result of the $408m deal to buy OM Group's assets in Finland and Australia (non-inclusive of debt), Norilsk Nickel intends to boost its metallurgical processing capacity by 60,000 tonnes of nickel per year, and its own nickel production by 35,000-40,000 tonnes. Norilsk Nickel expects the payback time on the OM Group deal to be around a year.
