Because the performance claims (exaggerated IMO) apply to the highest bin obviously. It does not address the issue of manufacturability or capacity, nor do those claims compare to what Intel will be shipping at the likely slip date of Barcelona ramp. AMD has not met a schedule in a very long time while Intel hasn't failed to pull a schedule in for a long time. AMD's 65nm process was very very late and still little more than a trickle. The losses mount and indications suggest AMD is now losing share across the board. The losses will be bigger and the cash is rapidly disappearing. How is a very large, difficult to manufacture die on a shakey process going to turn that around when the competition is hitting on all cylinders? AMD became complacent, just like Intel did 5 years ago. AMD assumed Intel would screwup forever, just like Intel assumed 5 years ago about AMD. Intel had cash in the bank to weather the storm and fund turnaround designs that could leverage their more advanced process technology. AMD's process is not only well behind but the gap is widening and the rate will accelerate. So, I don't see how a over hyped, oversized die which will likely slip even more is going to turn so many fundamental things around.
