There can be no absolute guarantee about any event that might happen in the future, nor about an event in the past which has not been investigated. Despite the prevalence of advanced forensic techniques, like DNA testing, not a single executed murderer has been proven innocent since the death penalty was resumed in the 70s. With 10-15 years of appeals, what are the chances a mistake will be made in the future? Pretty slim.
