"the Americans forgot what the Romans never did, that they had to do whatever it took to establish control. Roman methods were brutal."

Sometimes, people don't want or need to "become" Romans, Nadine. One hopes you aren't actually advocating that the US step up the brutality, and become the kind of country it spends time labeling as "evil". Sometimes you don't invade the places that require "brutality" to subdue them, especially when it isn't absolutely positively necessary- and this invasion certainly wasn't.

The series Rome has cause a lot of people to worship the Romans, which strikes me as pretty funny, since a lot of those people are probably Christians, and let's all remember who crucified the putative son of God... I'll give you a hint, it wasn't the Greeks.
