"the barbarians over ran Rome,"
Yes. I know,
"this fact cannot be change,"
Nor would I want to 'try to change it'. (All Western history depends on that fact.... :-)
All I was ever pointing out was that your *characterization* of 'why the Empire was over-run' is somewhat suspect....
(Considering that the 'Empire' at that point in time was in deep, deep doo [somewhat analogous to the fading end days of the Ottoman Empire...], corrupted, tax base gone, currency devalued for centuries, government finances destroyed, a food importer, Authoritarian or Dictatorial governance for centuries, an *official religion* [Christianity] MANDATED by the Caesar, non-believers occasionally crucified or fed to the lions... and there would not be a Western-style 'Liberal' in sight any more for MANY a century to come. :-)
Not only that, but the 'barbarians' (at least as far as military tactics) were very 'Romanized'... because they had mostly been serving in Roman auxiliaries for a long time. |
