No, that's not quite right....
You had a two-part statement (two premises), when you said "Thousands of people are murdered each year by drunk (and stoned) drivers..."
1) While I certainly have no argument about the one premise ('drunk drivers').
2) Nor about people *mixing* their intoxicants (booze and ANYTHING, for example)....
3) For the subsamples that are merely 'marijuana-stoned', the ACTUAL evidence suggests no 'over all' increase in driving risks, no higher risk then those of the general public which is not 'under the influence' of any substance. (The study I referred to, by the British Highway Police, actually showed a small *increase* in driving safety... although there are other studies that have showed a small increase in risk.
Still... NOTHING like alcohol's danger is show by any study of actual driving.
Like my post said, I'm a big fan of letting the cops actually MEASURE reflexes, eye focusing, walking the line, touching noses, and such... as an APPROPRIATE and FAIR way to keep the roads safe. |
