Consistent with previous technology generations, AMD continues to go the silicon-on-insulator (SOI) route at the 65-nm node, citing the benefits of higher density and lower power over bulk silicon. This is the third SOI technology node for AMD and should put to bed any lingering doubts about the suitability of SOI for high-volume manufacture.
