It is not clear at all. Not from the public results so far. It could be that AMD is using SOI not for the reason that it is better, but because that is what is available from their research consortium. Which goes back to the starting question of this thread. Does AMD have the ability to carry out independent advanced research ?

Then the Barcelona benchmarks, whenever they become available, will be very telling about AMD fortunes for the next couple of years.
