"There is substantive fact to support the hypothesis that global warming is caused by increased CO2 in the atmosphere..."

Several different studies of data series from ice cores show that CO2 variations are indeed in almost 100% correlation with planet temperature. However, these studies are in overwhelming agreement that CO2 variations consistently _lag_ the temperatures by 1200+-700 years. Therefore, it must be quite obvious that the above hypothesis about the root _cause_ of global warming is invalid.

"... and that increased CO2 comes from man's use of fossil fuel."

Which makes the "man's" part moot at best.

"But even if its wrong, I see no reason why we shouldn't cut back on the burning of fossil fuel where its reasonable"

I would agree that air pollution is a bad thing. However, the reason why we should not is that the others will not do this. Areas with explosive growth of population will not give a rat about your concerns. So, the solution to the problem lies elsewhere.

The term "reasonable" also have many sides, and the immediate economical side is a very important one.

"... and increase research on alternative fuels. Why do you disagree with that?"

I don't, meaning the research part :-) :-)
