Clearly, ALXN, its backers and investors have taken a huge risk. Surely, the company should be rewarded for its successful effort. Unless the public is willing to fund orphan drug development, I don't see any way that treatments would ever be developed for these diseases. And I really can't see the public ever fully funding drug development for a handful of citizens when there are masses going with inadequate health coverage.
