I can see a number of possible motives at work there. I can understand why Russia does not want a nuclear-armed Iran, there are already too many members of the club. I can also see why the Russians want to get paid (assuming this is a real issue, the Iranians claim they are current), just in case, uh, something should happen to that plant before it gets fired up. "Hello, Moscow? Tehran calling. Please come and pick up your smoking pile of rubble, we don't want it anymore."
