I met an old man in a used bookstore ond day. He had terrible cataracts, and wanted me to help him find certain books. They were books on the history of warfare. I ended up giving him a ride back to his place, and he invited me in. I was looking for a book on Gettysburg. I played big historical hex grid war games then on huge maps, maps that filled entire rooms and games that might take months to complete with little 1/2 inch square cardboard "units". So, the old guy and I had an interest in war in common. It turned out he was a retired general who had served in Eisenhower's (as President) military. He'd been involved in the Army's Redstone missile project, the first attempt at a ICBM (the one that kept blowing up on the launch pad!). He told me that the big wars are ALWAYS over resources mostly. Water, grain, steel, oil, rubber - whatever, throughout history. And that countries prepare for wars YEARS before they launch them - but if you pay attention, you can see them coming. At the moment, we're the country that needs the resources and has the biggest military. Guess what that means?
