I remember driving up with my friend and his mother from Ogden to Montana when I was a kid. We were passing through Idaho and were not all that far from where Hemingway lived in Ketchum when it was announced on the radio that he had shot himself.

Stacie Keach played Hemingway (well, I think) in a TV movie bio back in the 80s. The justification they depicted for his suicide was despondency over loss of creative drive.
