It's infatuation, no doubt about it. The guy gives a great speech two years ago and his star takes off.

Great leaders have the talent to inspire. Lincoln's Gettysburg Address inspires us to this day - even though it wasn't well received at the time. John Kennedy's "... ask not what your country can do for you..." is etched in our conciousness. Reagan's "...shining city on a hill..." embodied what American's wanted to feel. Ted Kennedy's concession speech at the 1980 Democratic National Convention "... and to those whose concerns have been our concerns, I say to you tonight... that the work goes on... the cause endures... and the dream shall never die." inspired even Jimmy Carter's mom to say "If he spoke like that before I would have voted for him."

Oratory is a difficult and almost lost art. Those who can use words to uplift and inspire an otherwise jaded electorate to see beyond themselves... well, after 8 years of a guy who can barely order a hamburger without mangling the language... the person who can speak and inspire will be attractive.

There remains sufficient time before the primaries to peer behind the Obama facade and see what kind of person Obama really is. Is he all style and no substance? Is he a flash in the pan? Will he self-destruct? Time will tell.
