A shot in the dark .....

I was reading a posting on Stockhouse that contained the following;

"One use (of limestone), for instance: Heat limestone to make Carbon Dioxide, mix it with hydrogen from the electrolysis of water, and the result is methanol, Of course you need cheap energy to HEAT the limestone initially".

One hears quite a bit these days about ethanol from Biomass. Are "ethanol" and "methanol" related ? I believe they are both alternative energy sources. Do you know the difference between them ? Is there any connection between ethanol and limestone ?
