ork, is the housing market in Detroit bad just in the inner city, or is it affecting the metro area as well? there are less than a million people in Detroit but something like 6 million in the Detroit-Windsor area. it is always hard when reading these articles to tell if they are talking about inner Detroit or the broader metro area. e.g., the following quote from the article presumably means inner Detroit:

"The city, which has lost more than half its population in the past 30 years and struggled with rising crime, failing schools and other social problems, largely missed out on the housing boom that swept much of the country in recent years."

what aobut the broader area of suburbs? it didn't rally much during the boom years, did it?
