Actually, Dan The Franking Man was under investigation. Interestingly enough, the Democratic replacement finished the case. So if the firings were to head off that investigation, it failed.

Ah, those were the days. When a big scandal was abuse of franking privileges. The Republicans would kill for a mild scandal like that...
