It just occurred to me that the original inhabitants of the area were the Philistines. Perhaps any descendants should get together and form "The Philistine Liberation Organization." :>)


The Pals are ahead of you there. They already claim descent from the Philistines. How else could they outdo the Jews? Who were never there, you see.

Actually, according to the archaelogists the Philistines were Indo-European, and thus were comparatively late arrivals, coming in the same 2nd milleneum wave of migration that brought the Doric Greeks and the "People from the Sea" to the Eastern Mediteranean and Egypt, respectively.

According to the Bible, the Caananites were separate from the Philistines, and you can see by their customs - the ones the Bible keeps decrying - that they share worship of Astarte with the Babylonians; they have a Semitic cultural package.
