I made a 55 pound pull recurve bow out of fiberglass and maple with the handle being walnut and cherry wood.

I have never participated. But everything I read leads me to believe that the toughest part is building up the chest muscles to pull these bows.

One of my favorite "apocalypse" series of books recently is "Dies the Fire." It starts with a world where all post-industrial revolution inventions ceased to work and we went back to Medievalism. The Bow become the number one weapon.

Excellent series, by the way.
