GAIL to set up coal gasification plant

NEW DELHI, March 22 (UPI) -- State-run Gas Authority of India Ltd. says it will set up a coal-gasification plant in Orissa state for coal linkage.

"We have urged the coal minister to provide a long-term coal linkage for the upcoming project at Talchar in Orissa," a GAIL spokesman said.

Government-controlled Oil and Natural Gas Corp. and private major Reliance Industries Ltd. have already announced they will set up coal gasification plants.

"India has proposed to implement the project based on shell technology. The gas major has projected that coal feed of 5,200 ton per day and dolomite feed of 546 ton per day," said a company official.

He said GAIL has already finalized the detailed feasibility report on the project. The spokesman said Talcher was selected as the most-suitable place to set up a coal gasification plant.

The company has already set in motion the process of signing an agreement with Coal India Ltd. for jointly evaluating the project.

The government-owned company began dialogue with another public sector company Rashtriya Chemical and Fertilizers and private company Deepak Fertilizers with regard to customer tie-up for use of synthesis of gas, the spokesman said.
