Standoff agreements mean nothing as the courts will squash them and allow shareholders to vote on an offer. The same is true for poison pills.

The point I'm making about Ecuador is the government has not decided how high the bribes will be or even if they will be static. There is also a high density of Environmental groups and other NGO's with influence on the people. The government is now talking of a reassessment of the mining code. This looks like another Mongolia.

Ecuador is in a state of flux on these mining issues. No mining development by normal mining companies can occur in such circumstances,...you have to have big leverage on the government and none of the companies we are talking about have that at present. But the Ecuadorians have no trouble letting you explore and delineate their resources for them :-[)
