People often ask where is the unix market?

Why is Unix invented?

Telephone system was all mechanical switches until Unix was invented. Packet switching took over the mechanical switches made telephony what is today.

So, unix market growth is how the telephone industry grow. AT&T never made their own computers and cpus. So, Sunw was born. But Sunw extended the Unix business into other applications, and using unix operating system on telephone communication software.

Today the market is very complex, but we look at it as an extension of the telephone industry. Enterprise computer systems are nothing more than telephone system communications, on their trunk lines.

So, we can project $15.9 billion market for unix systems, including hardware, software and service. Currently Sunw is somewhere between $11-12 billion. So, the growth is double digit and can be impressive if the management knows where they are going, namely IT service between telephone trunk lines.

When Sunw switches to IT service then they leapfrog over unix market and go into $trillion market of business e-commerce(Ajax webcreation) and supply chain(bill paying and freight management) and business process management(SAP object technology) markets.
