My husband sent me something Rush had said - and I thought it was so interesting, so wrong, and such an obvious case of Rush not even checking something out before he opened his mouth, I'd post it. Let's not accuse Rush of cynicism alone, let's accuse him of being an ignorant motor mouth:
"RUSH: Interesting point. Now, let me say something else that might be accused of cynicism. What is their religion? I don't doubt they're "religious people," but we talked about how political people are different than you and I -- and, you know, most people when told a family member's been diagnosed with the kind of cancer Elizabeth Edwards has, they turn to God. The Edwards turned to the campaign. Their religion is politics and the quest for the White House. It's not just with them. That's part and parcel of political people. "
Interestingly Edwards belongs to the same church as Mr. Bush, and Mr. Cheney (UM)- could Rush have been so ignorant he never knew that? It was talked about when Kerry picked him- that Edwards brought religious "balance" to the ticket. I'm truly amazed at the lack of education Rush has on this issue, and on his ignorance of how important religion has been to Edwards.
"BOB ABERNETHY, anchor: The Democratic ticket was completed this week, when John Kerry picked North Carolina Senator John Edwards as his vice-presidential running mate. Kerry, of course, is a Roman Catholic. Like President Bush and Vice President Cheney, John Edwards is a United Methodist."
" John Edwards was raised and baptized in a Southern Baptist church. But in a December interview with the Interfaith Alliance, Edwards said he fell away from religion during college and law school. Then, a family tragedy changed that.
'And I lost a son in 1996, and my faith came roaring back. And it played an enormous role in my ability to get through that period, and it stayed with me and has been enormously important.'" |
