John Edwards is a trial lawyer, which means he has good instincts for what will sell and what won't, and you can't sell cancer as a way to boost your campaign. Exactly the opposite -- people will be wondering whether he can go the distance now. Letting people know Elizabeth has cancer but they're not dropping out shows that he has a personal liability that he has no control over, with the potential to remove him from the race. Disclosure was appropriate, just as it is appropriate to disclose other health issues. It's heart-warming to know that she wants him to continue. She's always been his best asset.
