Yes it is. The problem is the beetles are destroying them faster than they (the pines) can replace themselves. The article in the paper suggested the beetles will eat themselves out of food and die off. The forest folks are continuing to find ways to isolate smaller areas of pine and keep them protected from the beetles. I haven't read the entire article yet, so I have no idea how they know how to do this. They use controlled burns where feasible, but last year a couple of those got out of control and then they have a different problem.
