do you think it's reasonable to assume that barcelona architecture design team has signed off with it somewhere around q4 last year? isn't reasonable that they're also working on something? my understanding from all i've read is that penryn is a straight port of c2d to 45nm (any contradictory news?) and there is an intel architecture refresh sometime late 08 (nehalem?) at 45nm. i think it's safe to assume amd will "attempt" to do the same. how successful they're depends on where amd 65nm process is when barcelona is released and when amd can get to 45nm with their new architecture.

amd has wasted their lead by a slow k10 release (or slow 65nm release?) and one possibility which can make a lot of money is 65nm gets very healthy alongside barcelona and amd can get to 45nm in a reasonable amount of time.

other than this i really don't think neither amd nor intel will be really useful for making money on the long side. i don't expect intel will be useful for shorting either though. amd (the company) is not going away for at least the next 3 years and ergo intc is not going anywhere either. if amd can't get to a decent 45nm they're really not going to survive much longer than that. so intc 2010 leaps are a good bet when they're available.
