You hit the nail on the head with this. Most voters held McCain above politics ... I did... and he still may be, ironically. But his support for this losing war has me lumping him in other pro-war types, which are the neocons and other *extremely unpopular* figures so I would never vote for McCain now. The truth is that McCain's support of the surge is based on his experience and a desire to obtain the best outcome ... it might be the right call but imho we should just get out of there. I think McCain is being lumped in with the pro-war types and that is the end of him, nationally
