An interesting sideline to that story:

David Manuel had a foundry and gallery in Joseph, OR, until recently. Joseph is a former timber town, and had been largely rejuvenated as a result of Manuel and the other bronze sculptors setting up there.

Manuel and the others wanted the town to do a bit more to encourage tourism, and the town would not, so Manuel and several others packed up and left.

IMO, the future of Joseph is very much in doubt. There is no industry there, tourism is limited to a short summer season. I think the town was foolish to let Manuel go.
Edit: FWIW, Joseph is the gravesite of Old Chief Joseph. I have visted the gravesite at the head of Wallowa Lake.
