You know how important economic conditions are for elections- I suspect the housing crisis may be near its nadir in 2008, that could really hurt republicans too, because their party will be blamed for the problems, since Bush is in the White House. The president always gets tarred with economic problems, even though most of the time he has little real impact on them.
