The Republicans' weakness in 2006 was desperately insisting that everything was great with the economy, and anyone who thought otherwise must be mistaken, LOL. The voters informed them otherwise. I suspect they will do the same in 2008 no matter what is actually going on. It's much easier for pols to play cheerleader than grapple with the electorate's real concerns, especially when it involves admitting fault.
