Interesting discussion on Detroit.. forum.skyscraperpage.com One thing no one mentioned in any of these discussions is the demographic trends.. Most of the growth in this country these days is Hispanic. A lot of areas in Florida, California and metro NY would be losing population in a major way just as Detroit if not for that.. Some of that architecture in the motor city from the Gilded Age looks incredible....Being close to bombed out war zones is nothing new and common in most any big city. Is Magic Johnson's group doing any major projects your way? It would make sense one driver would be the entertainment industry..sports, music ect..enormous wealth and desire to give to give back to the community..
