And what the Fed did best was reduce the purchasing power of the US$. See: bls.gov On the upper left side, under "Inflation & Consumer Spending" select "Inflation Calculator." I suggest you plug in 1.00 for 1913 and see what amount is necessary today to duplicate the buying power of $1.00 in 1913.

If the Fed keeps this up, we won't have to worry about recessions at all: we won't be able to afford whatever is for sale.
