I hope so. If I had a son entering college, I'd probably push him towards material science. The two big breakthroughs we need for a new solar-powered hydrogen economy are denser batteries and cheaper solar cells.

I think this is wise.

As for government rebates, I don't include them as part of the discussion, since it doesn't lower the overall cost. All it does is transfer part of the cost from the average citizen to the government, and we all know that government isn't exactly flush in funds these days.

Frankly it's to the point where this should not be an economic issue...but I understand the idealism in that thought.
