Avanex Introduces a 5G Transponder for 320 km Transmission
Tuesday March 27, 8:30 am ET

FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Avanex Corporation (NASDAQ: AVNX - News), a pioneer of intelligent photonic solutions that enables next-generation optical networks, today introduced its PowerReach(TM) 5G transponder module platform capable of transmitting data through C-band Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexed (DWDM) channels at 5Gb/s and up to distances of 320 kilometers (km). The PowerReach 5G solution offers the best cost-to-speed ratio for metro and access network applications.
The A5148/5188 series integrates Avanex's well-established transponder technology and is fully compliant with small form factor 300-pin MSA standards. The A5148/5188 design is based on the mature PowerReach(TM) A5180 transponder platform that has been deployed in volume for several years.

"The new transponder module platform is another example of Avanex's ability to leverage its intelligent module expertise and system application knowledge," said Dr. Giovanni Barbarossa, Avanex's chief technology officer. "This transponder module is uniquely positioned to cover a market not efficiently addressed by the existing 2.5G and 10G solutions."

The A5148/5188 series is available for sampling and will be showcased at booth 2141 at the Optical Fiber Communications Conference and Exhibition (OFC/NFOEC) held at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, Calif. from March 26-29.
