Roebear: In anticipation of a single currency in '98, the EU countries will be compelled to realocate foreign reserves in their new currency to reflect entirety of trade among the EU partners. This readjustment will result in the sale of US$ denominated reserves with the replacement of EU denominated reserves. The effect is a $750bb-$1 trillion distribution of US dollar-treasury instruments. The re-alignment will create a lot of pressure on the dollar.
