Do you really think that levying a carbon tax will solve anything? I don't. It would just give politicians more money to play with, imo.

I realize that my analogy to farm subsidies was somewhat strained. It had to do with the notion that driving is a subsidized event because the individual driver is being subsidized by the rest of world (ROW) in terms of the effect of his emissions. The author of the article was advocating a carbon tax that would make that driver have to pay the cost of his emissions rather than being subsidized. I was noting that the same people who would advocate such a Pigovian tax
were nevertheless advocates of farm subsidies. Such subsidies are a direct subsidy versus the effective subsidy in the driving example. Hard to justify both positions at the same time, imo.
