"Go figure."

Most people look at two achievement motivators. One is criterion referenced achievement, which is more related to self improvement as a goal. The other is normed referenced achievement, which is more related to besting the others. Most of us represent some combination of those two. A third achievement motivator that has never been researched much is the desire to be seen as a nice guy as an outcome of whatever is achieved. In some cases achieving 'nice guy' status is more important than what is achieved materially. Psychologists say that is real but it hasn't been researched because we don't see any benefit in promoting nice guys in society. You know where most nice guys finish, right? Carter is a nice guy.
