>>HELL is a place where sinners really do burn in an everlasting fire, and not just a religious symbol designed to galvanise the faithful, Pope Benedict XVI has said.<<

SR -

I can't imagine what kind of god would punish a soul for all eternity, just because of something a human being did over the course of a few decades. Really seems a bit out of proportion, doesn't it?

But I guess if the Pope says so, that's it. Too bad. I'm really not looking forward to that.

Just imagine my chagrin if the Pope is right, and when I arrive in Hell they throw these mocking statements in my face. Well, I'll take my chances.

I once heard a discussion about different religions in which one participant said that many religions have this concept of a place you go after death in punishment for things you have done wrong in life. However, Christianity is the only world religion where you spend all eternity in that place. In Hinduism, there's a very bad place you go, and you do go there for a very, very long time. But eventually you've paid your debt to the universe and you get out.
